Responsible for writing technical materials, such as equipment manuals, reports, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions. A Technical Writer gathers information by observing developmental and production activities; by studying product plans, drawings, specifications, journals, and samples; and by interviewing production and engineering personnel to become familiar with product technologies, uses, operation, and maintenance. A person in this position organizes material that has been gathered and completes the writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, format, and terminology. A Technical Writer is often tasked with selecting or creating photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material and may assist in layout work. A person in this position may also be called on to review published materials and recommend revisions in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding. |
